FAMILY MEMBERS SPINNER
TARGET CONTENT N° 1: IDENTIFICATION OF Family members and partner’s relatives.
8th
Graders
Aim:
Talking about family members and relatives.
Materials: YouTube (video), spinners, sheets of paper.
Duration: Preparation: 1 hour. Playing the
game: 15 minutes
Language focus: -How many do you have? -I have brothers, sisters, aunts,
uncles... –My mother's sister is my . -Is he/she your _______? -How old ?
-How many _____?
Aim of
the game: Identifying Eliciting basic information from both friends and
strangers.
INTRODUCTION
At the
beginning of the class students will see a video about an American sitcom
called Modern Family as a way to introduce the topic, and for students to
recognize different types of families. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aogZUDx51vQ
)
Students then will
share with the rest of the class if they had seen the sitcom sometime.
PREPARATION
1.
Ask the students to draw a picture of their family members.
2.
When students have their family drawings finished ask them to
stand up and make a circle to perform the activity called “Family Members
Spinner”.
ACTIVITY
1. When students form the circle, the teacher is going to ask one student
at the time to choose a number from 1 to 7 as a way to choose which student is
going to start. The same dynamic will be maintained until each students has
participated.
2. When the student who is going to participate is chosen, he will have to
spin the spinner. Depending on the color in which the spinner falls, the
student will have to describe their family using the drawing they already made,
answer a question or answer a trivia.
3. The color Pink means: Describe your family, color Orange means: Trivia
and color Purple means: Question. Color green means: surprise.
